HBO Introduces the New Harry, Ron & Hermione

HBO Unveils Lead Cast for Upcoming Harry Potter Web Series

The highly anticipated Harry Potter web series from HBO has officially found its lead trio. The roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley will be played by Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout, respectively.

“Dear Mr. Potter, Miss Granger, and Mr. Weasley: We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.”

The announcement was made via HBO’s official Instagram account, where the platform welcomed the new cast with a message styled after a Hogwarts acceptance letter:

While the post featured the first photos of the young actors, the comment section was disabled—likely a move to protect the newcomers from online scrutiny and negativity.

Over 30,000 aspiring actors auditioned for the iconic roles since casting began last year. The upcoming series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven-book saga, with Francesca Gardiner onboard as showrunner, writer, and executive producer.

The series also boasts an impressive supporting cast:

  • John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore
  • Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall
  • Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape
  • Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid
  • Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell
  • Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch

Online Reactions Pour In

Despite HBO disabling comments on the original Instagram post, fans quickly took to other platforms to share their thoughts. On X (formerly Twitter), reactions ranged from nostalgic to cautious optimism.

One fan shared a throwback photo of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, writing, “I miss them.” Another urged empathy for the new cast: “Wish the kids luck. They’re about to be under a microscope the rest of their lives.”

Some users voiced excitement, while others criticized certain casting choices, particularly Paapa Essiedu as Snape. Still, many encouraged kindness and support for the young actors stepping into some of the most beloved roles in modern fantasy.
